An Adventurous Backyard Birthday Party for a 3 Year Old.

I know, I know… If you follow along our crazy journey, then you know I hosted P’s Birthday Giveaway in May… When he turned 3.

And, because we like to have parties outside when we can almost be certain the weather here in Maine will cooperate, we threw his party in June.

Now, I’m finally getting around to posting it cause’ you know, #Life #Summer #SecondPregnancyWoes.

My hopes in sharing this with you is that you too will see how much fun a simple, summer backyard birthday party can be – And, affordable & easy too!

Well, ready or not, here we come – P’s Great Outdoor Adventure Birthday Party!

Disclaimer: This post contains an exclusive promotional discount (at the bottom of post)  from a party vendor used for this event. While we love to promote a variety of products & services when applicable, please remember that all opinions are my own & you can always trust that I will only share things we genuinely love & use ourselves. Thank you for your support!

P's 3rd Birthday Party

This cozy little spot under the trees made for the perfect “camp” – It was also a great shady spot to open presents as well as paint rocks & shells! P already had the 2 tents (they were gifts) & his Daddy built him that table.

Look at the arm on that little guy, Woah! P was so blessed to have a huge crew of his Daddy Cam’s friends come teach him how to throw a disc or two with his little buds. Seeing all of our blended family & friends together made my heart so full. Hosting the party outdoors with ample space allowed us to welcome everyone. #LoveShowsUp

I made this burlap banner for his 1st Birthday party – Reduce, Reuse, Recycle!

When you have a party I guess you have to feed people huh? 😉 I kept it simple with easy cookout style foods & some relatives even brought a dish to contribute. I also have the best sister ever cause’ she camped out with me the night before to help with all the prep! I should note that there was another table to the left with an ice boat for cold dishes & buckets for drinks.

Making big wishes for a little guy! Again, with the simple & cost effective – Remember that sister who’s all cheffed up? She outdid herself slaving in the heat over these cupcakes with her homemade frosting. The perfect touch? This adorable moose & name cake topper from Dyer Designs & Events.

What’s better than drinking water straight from the sprinkler with your best buds?! Lawn games like; the sprinkler, kiddie pool, Lawn-zee, rock painting & disc golf kept everyone busy & laughing at no expense!

I was all about the simple décor this year – My sweet man cut me a bunch of tree slabs a while back & I used those as centerpieces. I pulled out these DIY fall mason jars from storage to add a little color to the outdoor theme. I had some of these custom tags made by Dyer Designs & Events leftover from the party favors so, I tied those in too.

We even managed to scoop up the guest of honor long enough for a wiggly family photo!

I always love to incorporate family photos into the party décor – My mom gave me this awesome piece of driftwood a while ago but I hadn’t gotten around to making anything with it yet so, I simply put a nail in each end & tied some twine to it to make the perfect photo display of the most important people in P’s life.

I LOVE favors for kids parties but I hate the junk that usually comes in them – I found these moose mugs at a local store for $2 each & filled them with a glow stick, bug repelling bracelet & a little bag of GrandyOats Granola! Along with these, we sent everyone on their way with a “BIG THANKS” using these adorable custom party favor tags made by Dyer Designs & Events.

What a blast this party was! I couldn’t be more thankful for the overwhelming support from friends & family who brought a dish, a game, a present and best of all – their LOVE.

To be honest, we weren’t sure if we’d throw a big party this year… Last year we opted to celebrate by making new family memories & going out of town for some fun but we are so glad we made this happen & on a small dime, too! A good ole’ day of outdoor adventures is just the right way to celebrate one incredibly awesome 3 year old!

I hope you found some inspiration for your own backyard party too!

  1. Oh my goodness, this is so sweet! I LOVE the tee pees and the guest gifts. So fun and thoughtful. What a fun birthday party. All the details are so cute, especially the custom tags!

    • If you have a large space indoors, you could totally pull this off. I leant the tents & made some décor for a friend who’s son’s party got rained out & she went with camp theme 🙂

    • P’s bio dad that passed LOVED to take him disc golfing so, it meant a lot that his friends showed up to toss some discs with P & his friends. Thanks for reading!

  2. Love your theme! I have two summer birthdays in our house, and it makes all the difference when you can plan your party outside. I, also, dislike the party favor junk. Those tumblers were genius! Looks like a fantastic party. Thanks for sharing!
